Coal Mining: Tailing Pond Processing (PDF - 849KB)
Traditional screening methods used in recovery of coal from ponds cannot screen below 300 micron and therefore return up to 50% of “good coal” back to the pond in the process. By introducing Virto’s MFVexcite technology, screening can now be performed at 100 micron without reducing throughput. This results in the recovery of additional coal from the main stream or the pond stream which is then used to create new product.

Virto Equipment uses MFVexcite technology to recover between 10% and 40% of solids from Coal Ponds as well as the main mining stream. MFVexcite, using fine filtration, allows Virto Equipment to reduce the ash content in the coal recovered, thereby creating additional product for both the Thermal Coal and Metallurgic Coal industries.

Virto Equipment’s ScreenX, using its proprietary MFVexcite technology, is able to screen at levels of separation previously unachievable by conventional screening equipment. In particular, the ability to reduce the hand over point from the Dry Grinding to Wet Milling Process from 16-20mm to 8-10mm will produce an overall reduction in the electricity consumed by the plant.
